UtilX® Safety & Training

At UtilX Corporation we understand that a safe work environment impacts every measure of a company's success, from the quality of work life to productivity and profitability. UtilX also understands that each of our employees plays a critical role in the completion of work in a safe manner, and the focus of our safety culture is "zero incidents" on all job sites. Safeguarding the lives and health of employees, subcontractors and customer personnel is the most important work we do.

UtilX maintains a dedicated Safety and Training department. Each member is a fully qualified and experienced journeyman lineman, has run operations crews for many years and is a highly skilled and experienced safety professional. The team's experience spans the energy and electrical industries, from utilities and industrials to nuclear and telecommunications. UtilX safety professionals have one goal—to insure that UtilX workers are the safest, best trained employees in the industry.

One of the indicators that all companies use to evaluate safety is injury rates—and UtilX rates in all categories are well below industry averages. But we at UtilX believe that if we focus only on our numbers we are setting ourselves up for failure. That is why we have developed a safety management system that strives to create a well-rounded safety culture that combines the more standard elements of rules/compliance/enforcement/recordkeeping with the various behavioral aspects of workplace safety. Below is a sampling of our programs and management system elements:

  • Recognize and reward safe behaviors and proactive involvement in the safety process
  • Generate active participation in one’s own safety and the safety of others
  • Provide feedback to the Safety Department and upper management
  • Intentionally seek out and mitigate hazards
  • Maintain and annually review a thorough field safety manual and supporting procedures
  • Ensure all departments—not just Operations—are included in the safety process and understand their impact on the company safety culture
  • Provide all employees with appropriate, state-of-the-art equipment to get the job done
  • Conduct rigorous pre-job inspections and briefings
  • Audit and inspect our worksites
  • Ensure the highest caliber of training and preparation
  • Live this commitment to safety from the top down

By design, UtilX employees are engaged and included in the safety process and this helps make our jobsites among the safest in the industry. Everyone in our company—from the Senior Staff to the employees in the field—is committed to our deeply rooted safety culture.
