Underground Power Solutions

Underground cables sustain damage from the environment over time, particularly water damage. Water accumulation in cables can cause two types of problems: the formation of water trees, which result in poor dielectric performance, and splice or component failures. Water damage disrupts service, leading to increased service and repair calls, as well as a greater number of unhappy customers.

You’re left with 2 choices:
  • Repair or rejuvenate your aging cable
  • Replace old cable with new cable
Replacement of underground cable is an expensive proposition. This is particularly true in urban or highly developed suburban areas, where digging up cables may involve disruption of traffic and expensive restoration.

For aging underground medium voltage cables with standard conductors, the best solution is often CableCURE.

UtilX has nearly 20 years of injection experience solving the worst reliability problems on more than 80 million feet of cable. When you are faced with aging underground cables, UtilX offers advanced technologies that significantly extend the life of conventional cables.

"We were having outages every time it rained, [but] we've had no trouble with underground cable failure since we treated approximately 35,000 feet of cable. CableCURE turned out to be a simple, effective, affordable solution to a recurring problem."

When you choose CableCURE to rejuvenate your aging cable, you’ll enjoy these direct benefits:
  • You'll leverage your budget dollars. Make your reliability budget stretch further. With CableCURE you'll be able to spread the same budget dollars over many more cables. CableCURE costs significantly less than cable replacement, it is often more than 50% less expensive.

  • You'll see a decrease in outages and customer complaints. With more than a 99% of treated cables enjoying failure-free performance, you will notice a rapid decrease in complaints from your customers. Because the injection process requires no or little digging, most of your customers will never be aware of the repair work. All they will notice is that their power supply is more reliable than before -- because the treatment will result in a 2 to 4 times improvement in the cable's previous dielectric performance.

  • You may be able to capitalize treatment costs. In a letter order to Georgia Power Company, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has stated that CableCURE technology may be capitalized when its purpose is to extend the useful life of the treated cables. Since extending the useful life of cables is the primary reason that most utilities choose CableCURE technology, it's easy to justify capitalizing the expense. Read a Rural Utilities Service (RUS) letter about capitalization.

  • You'll extend the life of your cables significantly. For previously installed stranded, solid-dielectric cables, CableCURE® technology can extend their life by at least 20 years at a mere fraction of the cost of replacement.

"We injected our first cables in 1996; approximately 7,600 feet. In that particular subdivision, our failure rate went from 1 fault every six weeks to 1 fault since that time. Not only does CableCURE treatment improve service, it improves customer relationships by avoiding trenching through existing landscaped easements."

  • You can count on our 20-year warranty. If you are not satisfied with the performance of CableCURE treatment or the professional service of our injection experts, UtilX will refund all of your money for the treated segment or segments of cable-for up to 20 years after the date of service. This warranty, which is vastly superior to any warranty offered for conventional cables, is not only backed by the good faith of UtilX itself, but also insured.
